The Chilton Towers Tenants’ Association:
About Us

WHO WE ARE:

The Chilton Towers Tenants’ Association (CTTA) represents the common interests of the tenants of Chilton Towers, a 14 floor residental apartment building of 195 units at 220 West Jersey Street, Elizabeth NJ 07202 at the corner of West Jersey Street and Chilton Street; owned and operated by Legow Management Company, L.L.C.

WHAT DO WE DO:

The primary concern of the CTTA is to uphold the tenants’ interests concerning rent increases. Currently, all Elizabeth apartment residents enjoy rent control that limits annual increases to 3% with a $20/month maximum.

ONLY AS A VOTING BLOCK will such laws stay in effect!

The City of Elizabeth Fair Rental Housing Board ("Rent Control Board") regulates what increases and costs landlords may pass to tenants. The CTTA has defended the tenants’ interests at these meetings many times and shall continue to do so in the future.

Tenants’ Rights in New Jersey: A Legal Manual for tenants in New Jersey
Tenants associations are groups of tenants in a single building or in a town that work to improve the conditions in rental housing. Tenants associations also work to protect and increase the legal rights of tenants. The New Jersey Tenants Organization (NJTO) works to improve state laws affecting tenants’ rights. In fact, most of the New Jersey laws protecting tenants were passed as a result of the efforts of NJTO and other tenant organizations.
